Kargil war introduction
- Kargil war is a military conflict between the Republic Of India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. India started the battle because of Pakistan's intrusion in the Indian territory, and the War begins from 3rd March 1999 to 26th July 1999. It ended with the decisive Indian victory.
Pakistan's Conspiracy.
- In 1999, Parvez Musharraf appointed as the chief of the Pakistan Army. Then he and Lieutenant General of Pakistan Mohammad Azeez was planned to attack India and occupy the Kashmir of India. Many Army officials of Pakistan joined together, discussed the plan presented by Musharraf. The plan was named "Operation Badr" The term Badr means Full moon.
Operation Badr.
- As per the Operation Badr, The soldiers were instructed to cross the LOC(Line of Control) and occupy the 700 square kilometers of Kargil region to disconnect the route between Ladakh and Srinagar which is 200 km near the Kargil, So that they can cut off the supply from the Mainland and they can occupy the Kashmir. The Operation executed and Pakistan's soldiers crossed the Line of Control, and they seized Batalik, tiger hills, Drass regions.
India's resistance.
- Indian Army finds out that Pakistan's intruders crossed the LOC, and the Indian army sends a Patrol of 5 men to confirm the intrusion. Then, Pakistani Intruders captured the Patrol and killed them horribly. The incident makes Indians angry then, the Indian government led by Prime Minister Vajpayee decided to retaliate Pakistan. He enforced the military actions in the Kargil. India officially waged war against Pakistan on 18th May 1999.
War at the high altitude.
- The battle fought at the height of 18,000 feet, with a temperature of minus 40 degrees centigrade. Since the enemies were at the top of the mountain so the movement gets attention, so the soldiers go to the mountain in the night times when the enemies were in the asleep. They moved inch by inch to capture the points to check the weapon supply of the intruders. The fight took place when soldiers reach the top of the mountain. The momentum of battle changed when the Indian Air Force came into the scene.
Operation Safed Sagar .
- The term Safed Sagar means the white sea. It is the operation started by the Indian Air Force to eliminate the intruders from tiger hills, Batalik and Drass sectors with laser-guided bombs. The game-changer in the war is the recovery of Tiger hills. This is one of the masterstrokes of the Indian Air Force and gave the courage to recover the territory. within 16th July India pulls out the intruders and comes with the decisive victory. V.P Malik, Chief of Indian Army took the Credit. Prime Minister of India Vajpayee declared Operation Vijay a success on 14th July 1999.
Casualties and Indian Patriotism.
- During the war, India suffered the loss of 407 soldiers, 584 injured and seven soldiers missed. Indian MIG-27 blown up and FL- Lt. K. Nachiketa was taken prisoner of war, later released. On the Pakistan side, 696 soldiers killed with the decisive defeat of retreat. The total cost of the war was Rs. 1,100 Cr. The war gave patriotism to many Indians and many celebrities gave their contribution to Kargil Relief Fund. After the war Military budget of India gets increased and military infrastructure also modernized.
